5-MeO-DMT is 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine. Bufotenine is 5-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine. If bufotenine occurs naturally in the toad, doesn't that make it safe? Natural origin carries no safety guarantee. The same gland also produces cardioactive compounds specifically evolved to harm animals that try to eat the toad. Defensive secretions are, by design, not benign.
