What a ceremony is

Reverence and rigor, together

5-MeO-DMT — from the Bufo alvarius toad, and often simply called Bufo — occasions one of the most profound experiences known. The acute journey is brief, typically under an hour, yet people consistently describe it as among the most meaningful events of their lives. That is exactly why the setting, the guide, and the safety around it matter so much.

A MindScape ceremony keeps the reverence: a quiet, intentional space at one of our Cozumel residences, an experienced facilitator, and time held for you alone. What we add is the rigor most ceremonies lack — physician screening beforehand, including cardiac safety, medical presence throughout, and structured integration after.

The ceremony itself is one day. You arrive in the morning, are received and prepared, journey in the early afternoon, and spend the rest of the day landing gently — rest, reflection, and guided integration before you leave.

Why 'underground' ceremonies concern us

Bufo ceremonies are increasingly offered informally — in living rooms, at festivals, on retreats with no medical capability. 5-MeO-DMT is powerful and fast-acting, and in an unscreened setting nobody knows whether your heart, your medications, or your history make it dangerous for you, and nobody is equipped if something goes wrong.

We believe the answer isn't to strip the ceremony of meaning — it's to hold it inside real safety. Every MindScape ceremony begins with a confidential medical pre-screen reviewed by our clinical team. If a ceremony isn't safe for you, we tell you honestly, and we don't proceed.

That is the whole difference: the same sacredness, none of the gamble.

Questions

Bufo ceremony questions, answered

After medical screening and preparation, you are guided through a single supervised 5-MeO-DMT session in a quiet, reverent setting at one of our Cozumel residences. The acute experience itself is brief — typically under an hour — and the rest of the day is devoted to landing gently: rest, reflection, and guided integration with our team.

A guided one-day 5-MeO-DMT (Bufo) ceremony is $1,450 at Casa Selva, our jungle facility, or at The Hacienda in downtown Cozumel — all-inclusive of screening, facilitation, meals, and integration. A private ceremony at the Oceanfront Residence is $2,200, with dates on request. Multi-day 5-MeO-DMT retreats run from $3,500.

5-MeO-DMT is powerful and fast-acting, and most ceremonies offered informally have no medical screening, no cardiac assessment, and no plan if something goes wrong. At MindScape every ceremony is preceded by physician screening including cardiac safety, supervised by an experienced team, and followed by structured integration. Reverence and safety are not in tension — we provide both.

5-MeO-DMT is a Schedule I substance in the United States, so there is no legal supervised ceremony available domestically. Mexico permits supervised use in clinical settings, and Cozumel is a short direct flight from most US hubs. There is no legal barrier to traveling for a ceremony.

Yes. You complete a confidential medical pre-screen first, and our team walks you through simple preparation in the days before. Afterward, integration matters as much as the ceremony itself: we provide structured reflection the same day and follow-up support so the experience settles into real life.
