Five studies. Designs before conclusions.

The Ibogaine Evidence Atlas

A source-linked guide to what five important research programs registered, planned, or measured, and what their designs cannot establish. No outcome league table and no efficacy promise.

Start with design and recruitment relevance, then open a study for its population, comparator, follow-up, outcome focus, limitations, and primary source. Planned programs are clearly separated from completed research. A listed recruiting status is not a guarantee of an open place or eligibility.

Research records

5 of 5 records shown

  • ObservationalNCT07226570

UC Irvine MIND-OUD: Mapping Ibogaine Neural Dynamics in Opioid Use Disorder

    University of California, Irvine

    Condition / topic
    Opioid use disorder
    Sample
    20 participants, estimated enrollment
    Recruitment
    Listed recruiting

Outcome focus: Changes in reward-circuit functional connectivity, drug-cue BOLD activation, regional glutamate and glutamine, EEG alpha power, opioid withdrawal, and craving

What it suggests: The registered assessments can characterize neural and self-reported changes before and after independently obtained ibogaine treatment in a defined OUD cohort

  • PlannedProgram record

DemeRx DMX-1001: Planned Oral Noribogaine Development in Alcohol Use Disorder

    DemeRx, Inc.

    Condition / topic
    Alcohol use disorder
    Sample
Not stated for the planned alcohol use disorder trial in the cited announcement
    Recruitment
    Enrollment not open

Outcome focus: Clinical development of DMX-1001, an oral noribogaine candidate, for alcohol use disorder; no registered outcome set is cited in the announcement

What it suggests: DemeRx announced FDA acceptance of its Investigational New Drug application in April 2026, permitting the described development program to proceed toward further study

  • ObservationalNCT04313712

Stanford MISTIC: Pre-post Evaluation of Ibogaine-Magnesium Therapy in Veterans

    Stanford University

    Condition / topic
Blast exposure, head trauma, and PTSD
    Sample
    30 participants, actual enrollment
    Recruitment
    Completed; not enrolling

Outcome focus: Change in WHODAS 2.0 disability and functioning scores; the broader editorial record also describes clinical and neuroimaging assessments

What it suggests: The study provides prospectively collected before-and-after measurements in a defined veteran cohort and a registered framework for examining functioning and disability

  • PlannedProgram record

Texas IMPACT: State-directed Ibogaine Clinical-trial Program

UTHealth Houston, selected by Texas Health and Human Services Commission as lead institution

    Condition / topic
Addiction, traumatic brain injury, and behavioral health
    Sample
Not announced on the cited HHSC program page
    Recruitment
    Enrollment not open

Outcome focus: Program-level development of controlled ibogaine research; no study-specific registered outcome set is identified in the cited program source

What it suggests: Texas has selected UTHealth Houston to lead implementation of Senate Bill 2308 and is developing the institutional path for future ibogaine clinical trials

  • RandomizedNCT04003948

ICEERS Spanish Trial: Low-dose Ibogaine During Methadone Detoxification

International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research, and Service, with Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus and other listed collaborators

    Condition / topic
    Opioid dependence and methadone detoxification
    Sample
    20 participants, actual enrollment
    Recruitment
    Completed; not enrolling

Outcome focus: Rate of methadone dose decrease, adverse events at different doses, and electrocardiogram measures including QT interval and ST wave

What it suggests: The registry documents completion of a small, masked, randomized dose-comparison study with defined methadone-taper and safety outcomes under hospital monitoring

A reading guide, not a ranking

What this can and cannot tell you

Design sets the limit

Observational cohorts can document what changed over time, but without a suitable comparator they cannot isolate causation. Randomization and masking answer different questions, but a small completed trial still needs a results source before anyone can interpret its findings.

Registry status is not a result

  • Recruiting describes registry status, not guaranteed availability.
  • Completed describes study conduct, not a favorable outcome.
  • Planned means key protocol details may not yet be public.

Dates have different jobs

A registry status-verification date comes from the study sponsor's registry record. An update-posted date comes from the registry. An editorial review date records when this Atlas checked and summarized the cited evidence. None should be presented as a substitute for another.

The Evidence Atlas is an educational editorial index, not medical advice or a recruitment service. Eligibility and openings must be confirmed with the study sponsor. MindScape Retreat is not a site for these studies.
