Systemic corticosteroids drive renal potassium excretion through mineralocorticoid receptor activity, and can lower magnesium secondarily. The effect is dose-dependent and becomes clinically relevant around 10 mg prednisone-equivalent daily or above; short low-dose or purely topical/inhaled use is a much smaller concern. Steroids also raise blood glucose, which matters during a fasting protocol.

Record the DOSE, not just the drug — a 5 mg maintenance dose and a 60 mg burst are different exposures. At 10 mg prednisone-equivalent or more, measure K+ and Mg2+ before dosing. The Pharmacology
